First, here’s a brief explanation of how crosstalk works. Everyone speaks their own language. For example, my language partner speaks English, while I speak German . But is this really an effective way to learn a language?
This could be useful for advanced beginners with good listening skills who are still afraid to speak in their target language. They also find it easier to form simple and correct sentences in their mother tongue, which will help their language partner to understand them.
However, once you reach an intermediate level, I recommend moving to the next step and practising speaking in your target language. The sooner you transit to a normal conversation, the better. You might struggle and your language Partner will need to be patient, but once you start a tandem conversation where you change the language each 10 minutes and vice versa, you will both benefit.
