Media freedom during a war – what is the truth?

Of course, I’ve also built my opinion about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I’m in a lucky situation not living in this area and I don’t have to live in fear and uncertainty. There is almost no way to avoid being influenced by media coverage. Foreign journalists are leaving Russia because a new law threatens long penalties for violating censorship regulations or spreading alleged «false information» about the Russian armed forces. But what is the truth?

From a Russian friend I know, it’s impossible to get free access to media. She has no free access to the Internet, many sites are blocked and anyone who speaks critically against their own state risks severe punishment or the loss of a job or training place.

But can we believe the information we have here in Europe? What is truth and what is war propaganda interpreted here by our media?
